Instant Pot® Dulce de Leche

Y’all.  This is the easiest way to make Dulce de Leche (caramel sauce).  It is great over ice cream and as a dip for apples.  I am sure you’ll find all kinds of uses for it, and best of all, it is easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk, I prefer Eagle Brand but any brand should work well.

Instructions

  1. Pour contents into clean pint jar and place lid finger tight.
  2. Place in Instant Pot and add water to 3/4 up the side of jar, just above the condensed milk.
  3. Place lid on the Instant Pot and set for 35 minutes high pressure.
  4. Once timer goes off, release pressure immediately.
  5. Carefully remove the jars from the pressure cooker and place on a trivet.
  6. Let cool for a few minutes then carefully remove lid, add a pinch of salt and stir to mix.
  7. Replace lid and let cool for an hour or two before putting in refrigerator
  8. Will keep for a few weeks in the refrigerator sealed.

I like to do two or three cans at a time.  You can store in a plastic container or even a mason jar.  Keeps well after opened in refrigerator for about 3 weeks.

    Greg:
I really love your blog and your recipes. I really want to try this one soon: Homemade Dulce de Leche, do you allow the can to cool in the water in the crock pot or do you remove it from the water while hot and allow it to cool? Thanks so much for your help.

    • Melvin, I take it out of the hot water and let it cool completely on the counter before opening it. I am so glad you like my blog. I hope you enjoy future recipes.

  3. I always use this caramel to make turtles . Pecans, caramel, melted chocolate chips on top.

  4. the longer its left does it get thicker

  5. Need to change the written recipe to 35 min instead of 5. Had to watch the video again because I did it for 5 min per the written recipe and it looked the same.
