Great Grandma Blanches’ Caramel Recipe

I am typing this recipe word for word from her recipe card as seen in the picture….

1/2 lb  oleo or butter

2 c  sugar

2 cans of eagle brand milk

1/2 c flour

2 c  light corn syrup

Melt butter in very heavy pan, add sugar, syrup and mix well.  Boil over medium heat 5 minutes stir well with stick.   Remove from heat and add 1 1/2 c Eagle Brand , stir and mix  Add 1/2 c flour with remainint 1/2 c Eagle Brand, stir all together. Boil over medium heat until turns medium brown and forms ball that will stick together

Stir all way through at last add 1 1/2 t vanilla

Add NO salt, butter takes care of that

    Is the “eagle brand milk” in the recipe sweetened condensed milk? Or is it just regular canned milk that people sometimes put in their coffee?
    This recipe looks great and I’d love to make it for Christmas this year, thanks for posting. :)

    It is the sweetened condensed milk, not the evaporated.
