Did y’all know you can make your own Kahlua? My mom used to love Kahlua and cream drinks. Heck, I think she still does. So instead of going out and buying Kahlua, make your own. It is so simple. In fact, make yourself a batch while your making my home made vanilla and you’ll have two treats ready in just a short time.
Ingredients
- 1 (750 ml) bottle vodka or white rum
- 1 1/4 cups dark rum
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 3/4 pound whole coffee beans
- 1 vanilla bean
Directions
- Combine all of the ingredients in a sealable container. Shake hard to combine.
- Label with the date and let sit in a cool, dark place for at least 2 months. Shake the mixture several times of week.
- When 2 months has passed, strain your Kahlua through a cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer into a clean bottle or jar.
- Use like you would Kahlua or any other coffee liquor.
I have made this before years ago.
Hi Greg-
I was looking for a simple Kahlua recipe made with whole beans rather than instant coffee. I’m going to try this, along with your vanilla extract recipe.
I do have a question though. In your ingredients listed, do you mean one and one fourth cups rum OR one fourth cup? And do you mean one and a half cups sugar or one half cup sugar?
Thanks so much for sharing :o)
