Apple Cream Cheese Danish

One of my granddaughters (Chloie) stayed the weekend.  As most of you already know, the first thing she says as she walks into the house is “What are we cooking”.  Since we got back home a bit late from picking her up I talked her into cooking tomorrow.  At least that’s what I thought.  She ended up talking me into letting her make her own home made play dough.

This morning was a different story.  After our normal Sunday morning Starbucks outing we came home to make an Apple Cream Cheese Danish. For those of you saying how could you take her to Starbucks, she doesn’t get coffee.  Not that she doesn’t always ask…LOL.

Today is as she put it “our day of cooking”.  Yes y’all, I have created a cooking maniac.  As we were making the Danish she was already asking what we were going to make for dinner.  She has also unfortunately found the Pinterest App on my IPad.  Thanks to all the wonderful recipes y’all have been pinning, I am now going to be making a lot of them with Chloie.

So here is Chloie’s very simple version of an Apple Cream Cheese Danish.  I have to say though that it is very tasty.

Ingredients:

  • 1 thawed sheet puff pastry
  • 1 can apple pie filling
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  1. Roll the thawed puff pastry on a floured surface

2. Using a sharp knife, or in Chloie’s case a pizza cutter and slice diagonal 1 inch slices from each side to about 1/3 in.  Leaving the center 1/3 for your filling.

3. Spread the cream cheese and apple pie filling down the center of the pastry. Leave about 1 inch at each end to fold over.

4. Mix the sugar and cinnamon on a small bowl and then sprinkle across the filling.

5. Now starting at the top, begin folding and braiding the pasty slices.  Work your way down to the end and fold the ends up and tuck under the braided dough.

5. In a small bowl, mix the egg and use it to brush on the pastry braids.

6. Bake in a 420 degree preheated oven for 20-25 minutes.
