Recently the Dollywood® cinnamon bread recipe was shared on line. It is one of the things most guests go straight for when they go to Dollywood®. I know it is for me. Now this shared version uses frozen bread dough. I don’t know for sure, but I think they probably make their own dough for the bread right there at the park. But after tasting this recipe, it does taste so much like what I enjoy at Dollywood® . So if you can’t get to east Tennessee to visit Dollywood®, here’s your chance to taste on of the favorite treats at the park. Let me know what you think about this version and y’all enjoy.
Ingredients:
1 (1-pound) loaf frozen bread dough, thawed
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
4 tablespoons melted butter
Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2-3 tablespoons water or lemon juice
Coat two 8 1/2 by 4 1/2 by 2 1/2-inch loaf pans with butter or oil
Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a shallow dish and set aside
Cut the dough lengthwise into two pieces. Make 4 cross slits in each piece, taking care not to cut all the way through. Brush the loaves all over with butter, making sure to cover the creases.
Roll each loaf in the cinnamon/sugar mixture, packing the cinnamon into the creases with your hands.
Place the loaves in the prepared pans and set aside in a warm place to rise for 30 minutes. While the bread is rising, preheat oven to 300°F.
Once bread doubles, bake the bread, turning the pans around once, for 35 minutes, or until the top is golden and the tap on the bottom of the pan yields a hollow sound.
Meanwhile, make the glaze in a small bowl. Vigorously stir together the powdered sugar and water (or lemon juice) until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps.
Turn the bread out on to a rack while they’re still warm and drizzle the glaze over them.
Looks delicious! I would think you could use homemade bread dough after the first rise instead of frozen. I am definitely going to try. Thanks for sharing.
