Mom used to have friends and family over all the time when we were growing up. Whether it was card parties or just get togethers she always had plenty of appetizers. This was one of my favorites and I still love when she makes them to this day. It is her Swedish Meatballs. Let me tell you, they are better than any you can get at IKEA®. Give them a try and let us know what you think.
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1/4 lb. ground veal
- 1/4 lb. ground pork
- 1/2 teaspoon dill
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 3-4 slices white bread
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 can beef broth
1. Combine the milk and torn up bread to soak while mixing the remaining.
2. Combine in a large bowl the beef, veal and pork.
3. Add in the spices and mix well.
4. Mix in the onion, eggs and milk mixture and combine well.
5. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
6. Use a small cookie scoop and make into meatballs and place on sheet tray
7. Bake for 10 minutes at 350°
8. Remove from oven and place in small slow cooker on warm
9. Pour drippings from pan over the meatballs.
10. Salt and pepper to taste
11. Pour over the heavy cream and beef broth
12. Let them cook in slow cooker for at least 2 hours before serving.
13. Turn slow cooker to warm for serving during party.
