Mini-Apple Pies

First and foremost, I do not represent Breville, or suggesting you buy their Mini Pie maker.  I am merely showing you how I use mine.  One of my best friends, Ashley gave it to me as a gift last year. I have used it a few times, and each time I forget to share the results with y’all.

So today I decide to make some mini apple pies to go with my Pulled Pork Sandwiches we had.  Y’all, these mini pies are so easy.  You can do any kind of fruit pie, pot-pies, or even quiches.  But as I said, today is apple.  Now it is not my moms apple pie.  But they do remind me a little of grandma Jeans Apple Dumplings.

All I did to make them was make a pie crust, and then make some fried apples.  You can of course used a canned fruit pie filling.  The thing about this pie maker is you do have to heat your internal ingredients before putting them in the pie crust.

FILLING

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 4 apples
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar

PIE CRUST

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup cold butter
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons cold water

Make pie crust first.  Combine flour and salt in large bowl; cut in butter with pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in enough water with fork just until flour is moistened.
Divide dough in half; shape each half into ball. Flatten slightly. Wrap 1 ball in plastic food wrap; refrigerate for 1 hour.

Peel and slice your apples.  In sauté pan melt the butter.  Once melted, add apples and cook on medium temperature till they start to slightly soften.  Add cinnamon and brown sugar and mix well.  Cook an additional 2 minutes.

Remove pie crust from refrigerator and roll out both as you would for a regular pie crust.

Now cut out your mini pie crusts with the provided cutter. You will do four of  each side of the cutter.  The larger size is for the crust, the smaller for the top.  You can also do lattice if you like.  But this time I just did regular with a little sugar sprinkled on top.

Once cut out, you can put the larger pieces into the heated mini-pie maker.  Use the provided crust shaper to mold the crust into the pans.

Now add your heated filling so it is a bit mounded.

Once filled, you can put the tops in place.

Simply close the lid and cook for 7-10 minutes.  I lift the lid a bit at 7 and 8 minutes to check. 8 minutes seemed to be just perfect this time.
