Vanilla Sugar

Y’all know how much I love being able to give baked goods and other treats to friends and family that I make myself.  Well I thought I’d share with you a very simple one that y’all can do and give out this holiday season to your family and friends.  It’s “Vanilla Sugar”.  Now you will need vanilla beans which you can find all over the internet and even in some of your local grocery stores.  I usually by a large package on the internet and then make my home made vanilla extract and this vanilla sugar.  I like to have a dozen or so jars of it on hand during the holidays to give out as little gifts when people stop by.  Use a cute little mason jar and then decorate it with some ribbon or even twine along with a little tag that says “Vanilla Sugar”.   Your friends will love it and they can use it in coffee, tea and just about any other thing they use sugar in.

Ingredients:

  • 2  vanilla pods
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 small mason jar or other sealable container

Directions:

Slice the vanilla beans down the center with a paring knife. Then cut it in half.  Using the knife, flatten the vanilla bean on the cut and crap out the seeds.

Place vanilla bean pods, seeds and sugar in jar, shake and cover tightly.

Let it sit for at least 24 hours.   When is starts getting low, just add more sugar and shake.  I like to add  1 new vanilla bean about every 2 refills.
