Christmas Ham

Chilli-and-Lime-Glazed-Christmas-Ham

As you can see by my Christmas Ham, I didn’t put any Pineapple rings on this one, but if you do, as directed below, just place the star anise between and around the pineapple rings and maybe one in the center of each.

First of all you have to pick the right ham,in my experience the best ham to use would be a picnic ham, whole bone in.The things you will need to make the perfect ham is: Whole picnic ham, bone in,Two cans of sliced  pineapple, Light brown sugar, roasting pan, foil , a casserole dish, cutting board, large knife, and a baster.

First I like to start off by rinsing my ham after i take it out of the package. Then i place the ham in the roasting pan in about half an inch of water.I then cover the top of the ham with the brown suger, rubbing it in to my ham ,make sure it is a thick layer on top. Then place the sliced pineapple on the top of that ,making sure that the ham is covered. Then place the foil over the ham securing it all the way around the edges of the pan,you do not want any steam to escape ,this will help keep your ham moist.

Put your ham in the oven the night before you are going to serve it , because this ham is going to cook all night long .start about 10:00 at night . set your oven to 200 to 250 degrees depending on your oven ,you want to cook it very slow.check your ham about every three to four hours basting it with a baster every time you check it.In the morning take your ham out of the oven and set on counter to cool.

After your ham is cool take it out of the juice and place on cutting board.Reserve the juice for further use.Carve the ham taking the fat and skin away place pieces of ham in casserole dish until you have removed all of the ham from the bone. Now take your remaining juice and pour it over the ham until it is covered, cover again with brown sugar. Now place the pineapple that you cooked with it on the top.

The ham can now be placed in the refrigerator for later or placed back in the oven to warm through on about 375 degrees .Until hot.The juice will be very hot be careful not to spill it when removing from the oven.
Place on table and enjoy! You will love this recipe , It is time consuming but wonderful,my family looks forward to this ham every year.

Makes a wonderful Christmas or anytime meal also.

Ingredients:
Ham
1 Can of sliced Pineapple
1/2 C Brown Sugar
whole cloves or Star Anise

Preparing to Cook the Ham:
1. Remove the plastic circle insert on the ham, and place ham into the roasting pan flat side down.
2. Secure your pineapple rings to the sides of the ham using whole cloves. This works best if you take the longer cloves and insert them directly into the pineapple ring. Support the pineapple ring by inserting cloves on the inside of the ring, so the pineapple rests on it. You will be placing 2 cloves or Star Anise in the inside of the pineapple ring.
3. Pack brown sugar into the middle ring of each pineapple.
4. Pour the pineapple juice into the roasting pan with one can of water.
5. Cut two pieces of foil longer then the roasting pan. Lay the sheets of foil on top of each other and fold over one edge to form one large piece of foil.
6. Place the foil over the roasting pan and secure around the edges.

  1. Great recipe. Slow cooking is the key to a great ham. Just make sure your roasting pan is big enough to accommodate the ham. I’ve had problems with that a couple of times before.
