Stuffed Shells

Today, Gregs Mom Vera takes over Gregs Kitchen with her Stuffed Shells. This is a recipe our family has loved for quite a many years. Mom got this recipe from her aunt Wanda Faye and it is one we could eat weekly.



Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 pint chopped tomato’s
  • 1 quart spaghetti sauce
  • 1 medium chopped sweet onion
  • 4 gloves garlic grated or minced
  • 1 T. celery seed
  • 1 T. seasoning salt
  • 1 T. oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2-3 cups mozzarella cheese
  • 2 boxes of large pasta shells – Cooked
  1. In a large skillet brown your ground beef and discard excess fat after cooked.
  2. Stir in chopped tomatoes and cook for 3-4 minutes
  3. Add the onion and garlic, stir and cook till onion is translucent.  Watch garlic so it does not burn.
  4. Add in about half the spaghetti sauce and stir to combine
  5. Add the celery seed, seasoning salt, oregano and then salt and pepper to taste.
  6. If to dry, add a bit more spaghetti sauce.
  7. Now remove from heat and allow to cool a bit. (10-15 minutes)
  8. Stuff the meat mixture into the shells and place in a prepared baking dish.
  9. If using a small baking dish and you are making two layers, add half the cheese to the bottom layer and stack remaining stuffed shells on that.
  10. Top with remaining spaghetti sauce and cheese.
  11. Bake 15-20 minutes in a 350°F oven till bubbly and lightly browned.
  12. Serve with side salad and bread sticks…Enjoy
