Old Fashioned Buttermilk Apple Sauce Cake

Y’all this is one of my all time favorite cakes. It is so simple to bring together and you probably have all the ingredients in your pantry and this cake needs no frosting at all. I grew up with this cake and it always brings me back to my aunt Carols kitchen each time I smell it baking and then again when I take my first bite. I love to use chunky applesauce in mine because finding those little chunks of apple just throw it over the top for me. Y’all, please let me know what you think about this version and y’all enjoy.

Ingredients:

2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
1 cup granulated white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups apple sauce
1/2 cup buttermilk

In a medium bowl bring together the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder & soda, salt and spices)
In the bowl of your stand mixer cream the sugars and butter till incorporated and sugar dissolved.
Add in the eggs one at a time and mix to combine.
Now incorporate the vanilla, applesauce and buttermilk. Stir 1-2 minutes to incorporate well.
Now in batches add the dry mixture to the wet mixture. Be sure to mix well between additions.
Pour batter into a prepared 9×13 baking dish and spread evenly
Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 30-35 minutes
You can dust with powdered sugar if you like.
