This is a traditional southern meal that did not cost a lot to put together but had great taste and fed the whole family. It’s easy to call this a casserole and you can add different seasonings and cheeses to match your families taste. Let me know what you think about this version and y’all enjoy.
Ingredients:
3-4 strips bacon cut into lardons
1 1/2 pound ground chuck
1/2 sweet onion diced
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
4 large potatoes sliced thin
1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese
2 cups skim milk
Brown off the ground chuck and bacon together in a large skillet along with the onions.
Add the spices and Worcestershire sauce, mix well and turn down to low.
Peel and slice your potatoes fairly thin.
Pull back the ground chuck mixture from half the pan and lay one layer of potatoes down in pan.
Sprinkle with a handful of cheese.
Pull meat mixture back over the potatoes and layer another layer of potatoes on the other side.
Sprinkle with another handful of cheese
Spread meat evenly over the potatoes.
Layer remaining potatoes over the top of the meat mixture.
Top with remaining cheese.
Bake 45-55 minutes in a preheated 375°F oven until potatoes are soft
