In this video, I’m sharing my Mamaw’s famous chocolate cream pie recipe. This delicious dessert is a family favorite and I’ll walk you through each step of making it from scratch. Get ready to satisfy your sweet tooth with this classic chocolate cream pie!
1 ½ cup sugar
½ cup cornstarch
1/3 cup cocoa
3 cups milk
3 egg yolks
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Baked Pie Shell
•Mix together the sugar, cornstarch and cocoa in a heavy bottom pan.
•Add in the milk and cook until thick, stirring constantly until it comes to a boil.
•Remove from heat and add egg yolks, slightly beaten, cook 2 minutes more.
•Remove from heat and add the vanilla and 2 tablespoons butter. Mix well.
•Pour into baked pie shell. You can add meringue if you like. (See below).
•Cool for an hour or so before cutting.
Meringue
5 egg whites
½ teaspoon cream of tartar
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch salt
½ cup granulated sugar
Instructions
• Using an electric mixer with the whisk attachment (or a hand mixer), beat the egg whites on medium speed until frothy, then add the cream of tartar, salt, and vanilla extract.
• Increase the mixer speed to medium-high and beat to soft peaks. While continuing to beat the egg whites, gradually add the granulated sugar and beat until glossy and stiff peaks form.
• Bake until peaks are golden
