Vinegar was always a mainstay of old folk recipes for cleaning, and with good reason. Vinegar can kill bacteria, germs and mold.
Vinegar kills 99 percent of bacteria, 82 percent of mold, and 80 percent of germs (viruses). However, it seems to be uncommon knowledge in many households that vinegar is powerfully antibacterial.
So you should keep a spray bottle filled with straight 5 percent vinegar (what you can buy in your grocery store) in your kitchen near your cutting board, and in your bathroom, and use them for cleaning. Spray your cutting boards, and let them dry overnight without rinsing. The vinegar smell will dissipate within a couple hours. Vinegar is great for cleaning your toilet rim as well.
