This may be a vintage recipe, but it has all the taste and flavors of today. This is moms 1960’s Apple Cake and it is so moist and delicious. You won’t need frosting on this cake, but maybe a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream would be great. Let me know what you think about this version and y’all enjoy.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon baking soda
1/2 cup Crisco®
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon vanilla
4 medium apples chopped/diced
Topping:
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons cinnamon
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 cup chopped pecans
Mix together the sugar, flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and Crisco.
Add eggs one at a time and mix well.
Add in milk and mix to incorporate.
Add vanilla and apples and bring together.
Pour into a prepared 9×13 baking dish.
Mix the topping together by adding all ingredients in a small bowl.
Sprinkle evenly over the top of the cake batter.
Bake 30-36 minutes in a preheated 350°F oven.
