Y’all this is one of those recipes that I kind of just made up on the fly. I kind of went off the old “pork chops and apple sauce” from Peter on The Brady Bunch. Mom used to make fried pork chops all the time, but we got her home made apple sauce to go along side and it was delicious. So let me know what you think about this little concoction and y’all enjoy.
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon olive oil
4 pork steaks
2 large sweet potatoes sliced 1/2 thick
2 large sweet apples sliced
1 cup apple sauce
1 medium yellow onion sliced
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dried mustard
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/2 teaspoon rosemary
1 teaspoon turmeric
- In a large cast iron skillet coated in the olive oil, evenly distribute the sweet potatoes and apples.
- Sprinkle them evenly with the cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Sprinkle with salt/pepper
- Now pour the apple sauce evenly over the potatoes and apples .
- Slice onions and spread over the mixture.
- Mix all remaining spices well and season the pork steaks on both sides.
- Lay pork steaks on top of the potatoes, apples and onions.
- Cover with foil and place in a preheated 400°F oven.
- Bake covered for 55-60 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 10-15 minutes.
