This is a great southern snack that you can find in almost any southern burger joint. They are a quick and easy snack to make at home and they are so tasty. Give them a try and let me know what y’all think.
1- 1 1/2 cups pickles (sweet or dill)
Batter (combine all)
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 egg
- pinch of salt/pepper
Mix this all together.
Dredge (combine all)
- 3/4 cup flour
- 2 tablespoons corn starch
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- salt/pepper to taste
- Heat about 2-3 inches of cooking oil in a cast iron skillet to 375°F.
- Dip the pickles in the batter, then into the dredge mix.
- Drop carefully into the hot oil away from yourself.
- Cook 1-2 minutes each side till lightly browned
- Remove from oil and place on a paper towel to drain.
- Season with a bit more salt if you like.
