Some of the best recipes in the world are from our parents and grandparents. This is my Great Grandmother Blanche’s Banana Nut Bread Recipe. Love having mom do this. Mom does a lot of her recipes and they are all family favorites. This is a great bread that we always had in the fall and especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you want you can leave out the nuts, but I find they are so good in the bread, that I have never left them out. Let me know what y’all think of my great grandmothers recipe.
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 3 ripe bananas – mashed
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- Cream butter, add sugar gradually, creaming the two together.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating each one thoroughly.
- Mash banana and add to mixture. Blend well.
- Combine all dry ingredients in a small bowl and then add in two batches to the wet mixture.
- Stir just to combine.
- pour in 2 prepared loaf pans and bake in a preheated 350°F oven
- Bake 50-60 minutes. Check at 45 minutes
- Let cool in pan 15 minutes before turning out on cookie cooling rack.
