Y’all, in the south the pecan pie rules. Especially if your from Georgia. I grew up eating my moms pecan pies only on holidays. For some reason this is the only time of year she would make them.
Now the only thing better than a pecan pie is Southern Gooey Pecan Pie Bars. These are the traditional version. I also like to make them with a bit of bourbon and chocolate chips. OMG, those are to die for. I promise, I will make them soon and post the recipe along with pictures. But for now, here is the traditional version.
Ingredients
For the Crust:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup pecans (crushed)For the Pie:
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 tablespoons bourbon (optional, but why not?)
- 1/2 stick butter, melted
- pinch salt
- 2 cups pecans (chopped)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350ºF.
Mix together butter, flour, pecans and confectioner’s sugar. Then press into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking pan.
Bake for 15 minutes, or until lightly golden brown.
While the crust is baking make the filling.
Beat eggs. Add brown sugar and mix well. Now add the corn syrup, salt and vanilla.
Mix in melted butter. Add pecans and pour onto crust.
Bake 30 minutes until golden brown.
