Y’all it’s almost St. Patrick’s Day. I am sure there is going to be a lot of partying and drinking of green beer. It’s amazing to me the way holidays have changed since I was a kid. Well, maybe not changed, but have come to have a different meaning.
I can remember being all excited to wear my green clothes to school, and the years I forgot and got pinched. But I never really knew why we celebrated the day. It turns out St. Patrick’s Day is a centuries old holiday that originated in Ireland, where St. Patrick is the patron saint. Legend has it that St. Patrick came to Ireland and drove out all the snakes. Wow, from that we came to celebrating by drinking green beer and even coloring our rivers green.
One of the souths biggest celebration of the day has to be the one held in Savannah, Ga. So many people head to Savannah for the annual parade, greening of Forsyth fountain, and the party along the river. It is of sorts on the line of Mardi Gras in New Orleans without the nudity.
If y’all need an excuse to visit Savannah, other than the historic beauty, Paula Deen, or the beautiful weather. Use this holiday to see some of the best of one of my favorite cities in the U.S.A. You won’t be dissapointed
Happy St. Patrick’s Day Y’all!
