Strawberry Season

IMG_2808

This is one of my favorite times of the year.  Not only is it almost spring (and in Florida it is) but March is when we get all the juicy, sweet strawberries.  Luckily I live only 20 minutes from the Florida Strawberry Festival which is held in Plant city around the beginning of March.  All the local farmers bring their berries to the festival and set up their stands along the country roads leading to the festival.

I grew up in Troy, Ohio and we had a strawberry festival there as well, but nothing compared to the Florida Strawberry Festival.  I feel like I have grown up with so many different traditions and ways of doing things….I am so blessed.

My first memories of strawberries has to be when I spent weekends at my grandpa Cecils and grandma Corties.  They always had a big garden and in the spring, it was the strawberries that we all wanted.  I remember getting up in the morning and going out to the garden to pick a big bowl of strawberries.  Then me and grandma would make a small cereal bowl full for each of us and pour a little sugar on them them a whole lot of milk.  That was our breakfast.  It was a whole lot better than cereal.

Mom used to Fulton Farms in Troy, Ohio when we were young to hand pick our own berries.  I loved going there.  But some how, I always ended up eating more berries than I had in my bucket at the end of the day.  Then I would be sick for a few days from eating so many juicy berries.

So for all of you who want to enjoy strawberries like I do, click here for some delicious strawberry recipes.
